Old Town Red Rooster Cafe

Image
Located on the main street in historic downtown Cottonwood, AZ, is the Old Town Red Rooster Cafe.  It opened its doors in October of 2010 by two friends.  It quickly became a popular place to eat by the local residents and visitors.  They offer the most desirable components in their breakfast meals and sandwiches.  I had one of their turkey bacon wraps and it was tasty.  Check them out if you ever visit Cottonwood. El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano

Image
Sitting in the back area in Tlaquepaque Village in Sedona, AZ, is the El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano.  Their food is a mixture of Arizona Style and traditional Mexican food.  You will see how the Navajo/Hopi lifestyle is swayed in each meal.  They are know for their delicious El Rincon Chimichangas which are wrapped in a sopapilla masa and stuffed with either beef, chicken or tiger shrimp.  If you can find room in your tummy, they also offer dessert chimichangas with either chocolate, cherry or apple fillings.  My favorite meal when I go there is the spinach cream cheese enchilada.  OMG, it is so good! Whispering Creek Bed & Breakfast

Image
After the ladies and I spent the day wine tasting in Cottonwood, we ended our day in Sedona at the Whispering Creek Bed & Breakfast.  We were greeted by the owner, Cheryl Barron, and she showed us around.  Since there were five of us, we had to take two rooms.  The first room we saw was the one I shared with my sister-in-law, Deb.  We had a queen bed, TV, WiFi, fridge, and coffee maker all in a sweetly decorated room.  The bed was so comfortable!  The next place we check out was the girls room.  This room had a king bed, full kitchen, table with chairs, and a couch which turned into a single size bed.  They also had a porch with wood fence.  Cheryl said that she and her husband, Joe, plan to take the wood fence down and replace it with a wrought iron fence.  The wood fence took away from the amazing Sedona red-rocks scenery.  The last place Cheryl showed us was the dining area where breakfast would be served.  She offered us brownies and ice cream, but we were going to head out

Verde Valley Wineries

Image
Tucked in the middle of Cottonwood and near Sedona, AZ, are several wineries and vineyards.  I just recently took a girls trip to that area for wine tasting.  We had a great time and even bought a bottle or two of our favorites.  Even though there are numerous wineries in the area, these are the four we went to. Alcantara Vineyards www.alcantaravineyard.com This place was gorgeous.  From the back patio and lawn we were presented with the vineyards with many rows of covered grapes.  Behind the vineyards are breathtaking views of the mountains.  This was our first stop and well worth the visit.  This vineyard is the initial winery located along the Verde River.  It is the most prevalent winery located in central and northern Arizona.  Opened every day from 11am to 5pm, they provide excursions around the property on Friday and Saturday mornings.  For $10 or $15 for VIP’s, you are treated to 5 tastings.  Also included in the price is the 12.75 oz. crystal glass with the

St Thomas the Underwater Town

Image
The photos are from www.gizmodo.com As the waters of Lake Mead slowly evaporate, the ghost town of St. Thomas has been rising up.  When the Hoover Dam was constructed in the 1930s, this once thriving Mormon establishment became abandoned and eventually submerged underwater.  St. Thomas was instituted in 1865 by Mormon pioneers and their leader, Thomas Smith.  At its most prosperous, the town topped at around 500 residents.  After the dam was built, the water levels were increasing and forcing the inhabitants to vacate their homes.  The last hold-out left in June of 1938. Nowadays the ruins of St. Thomas are visible because of the drought and the ever decreasing water levels of Lake Mead.  A town which was once under 60 feet of water is now a place where visitors can walk around the skeletal remains that are left of the settlement.  St. Thomas is located in the northern part of the park of the Muddy River which flows to Lake Mead.

Ghosts at the Brass Armadillo

Image
I have to tell you that I have shopped at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall several times.  I always felt like something wasn't quite right in some of the areas throughout the mall.  I felt strange and got chills.  I just thought something was wrong with me and that the dusty old items were messing with my allergies.  I thought that until Sharon said she read that the place was haunted.  Of course when she came over to my house, we had to check out the mall and do some shopping.  She did feel a strong presence in certain areas where I usually had weird sensations.  At least this explained it. Some of the witnesses have reported cold spots, disembodied footsteps, objects moving and stopping on their own, and a strong feeling of being watched by unseen forces.  We felt that too.  Now I have two reasons to shop at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall:  the many items and ghosts that can be found under the roof where over 600 dealers sell their stuff. Inside/Outside Superstition Mountain Museum

Image
I just recently took another day trip to the Superstition Mountains.  Our first stop was at the Superstition Mountain Museum.  I took more pictures of the outside, but this time we went inside the museum and I was able to take photos of the displays inside.

The Haunting Cemetery

Image
There is a cemetery not many know of in South Phoenix near the Estella Mountains.  There a many graves, some with worn out headstones and yet others have none.  I visited this cemetery for the first time in the day to photograph the graves.  I found many unusual items on some of the graves.  The next time, Sharon and I will hit this place at dusk.  It was a bit creepy during the day.  I can't imagine how haunting it will be at night.
