This marvelous hotel is located in the city of Chandler and the brainchild of Dr. Alexander Chandler who founded the city in 1912. He named the hotel after Friar Marcos de Niza, a priest sent north to Mexico City in search of wealthy cities. The hotel’s grand opening was on November 22, 1913 to over 500 people including the vice president of the US, governor of AZ, congressmen, and many celebrities.
Since its opening in 1913, the hotel has undergone many changes and has had a couple of new owners. In the lobby, you can find the elaborate private collections from these owners in the several sitting areas. After adding several hundred more guest rooms and updating their looks, the San Marcos Resort has become what Dr. Chandler always dreamed it would be, an oasis in the desert.
Sharon and I enjoyed our stay there. After returning from Schnepf Farms, we cleaned up and hit the bar. We couldn’t resist the yummy chicken quesadilla. When we returned to the room is when the craziness began. We had a little champagne, did our strobe dance, followed by our lockdown, and the PJ ghost hunt. Check out Sharon’s video of the hunt: http://autumnforestghosthunter.blogspot.com/2010/10/pajama-ghost-hunt-first-ever.html
We had a great time but never saw any ghosties that night.

That was a really nice resort. It had that old early 1900s feel but very fancy and upgraded. It was just great to have another fun getaway. Next place we stay--Noftsger, where we know we'll run into some ghosties.
ReplyDeleteIs Autumn putting her finger in his ear?
ReplyDeleteThat was a beautiful place to stay at and be goofy too. I am glad we will be staying at the Noftsger again, that place is amazing with the huge rooms.
ReplyDeleteBarry, yep she is messing with the dude statues ear. He just ignored the silly lady.
I haven't heard of Noftsger before. My hubby said some day we should spent the night somewhere haunted. I said, "Um, I don't know if I want to sleep somewhere haunted, I may not be able to get any sleep because I'll be worried & I don't want to wake up with a ghost staring at me. Ack!" However, I would like to visit more haunted places to see if I ever SEE an apparition or something moving on its own. I have only heard things in a different room, not seen anything in person.
ReplyDeleteI just did the downtown Mesa ghost walk on Friday night. I took a lot of pics & got 1 strange one. I'm going to pass it on to a few different groups to get their opinion. I wrote a blog about my ghost walk in case you're interested.

Tonya, the Noftsger is in Globe and used to be an elementary school. Some of the rooms you stay in are large and used to be a classroom. There are many ghosts wandering the halls of the hotel amongst the many antiques. The place is very cool. I did a post on our last visit. Just put in "Noftsger" in the search engine at the top of the right sidebar. There are many haunted places around AZ to visit.
ReplyDeleteI will check out your blog and would like to see your pictures.
looks like a great place! too bad you didn't catch any ghosties.
ReplyDeleteYep Sandra, a ghostie or two would have made the night complete.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing hotel. It looks like you two girls had a good time too!
ReplyDeleteI love old historic hotels and this one is lovely! Sorry you didn't catch any ghosts; but it still looks like you had a wonderful time!
