The Force is With Me

It is definitely with me, 49 times. I guess that I need to explain. After a couple of years fighting with our mortgage company about making changes on our house payment, we got a lawyer to fight the bastards. We found out that they are not going to bend to our needs, so we are opting to leave the house. The house is 52 years old, needs repairs and was our home for over 18 years. We figure that we have a few months of not making a mortgage payment before they kick us out. We were sad because we never wanted to leave the house this way. The ideal situation was to sell it in a couple of years when the economy was better and buy another house west of Phoenix. We don’t always get what we want so we are taking this as a good thing instead of dwelling on the loss.
Since we received the news, my hubby and I have been going through the house and ridding ourselves of the collectibles and other junk which have no meaning or attachment for us emotionally. Years ago we were into collecting basketball cards, autographs, and action figures. We decided to start by removing the boxes that were stored in the attic several years earlier. I thought there would be about 8-10 boxes but I was wrong. He must have pulled at least 30 boxes down along with my daughters rocking horse. We started opening the boxes and couldn’t believe all the crap we saved. We told both of our kids that they needed to go through their boxes and take what they wanted with the rest going to Goodwill.

I told my husband that the closets were next. I knew that in our closet I had some unopened Star Wars action figures from 1995 to 2005. I was shocked by the amount of them I had stored away, 49 to be exact. We decided to look them up and found out that they had at least doubled in value from what I had paid for them when they were new. I even think that my Darth Maul might even be worth more but will need to check into that further. If you or anyone you know might be interested in buying the whole bunch for one price please email me and we can haggle over the amount. I am reasonable.

Also a heads up, I will be opening an Esty shop in a couple of weeks. The shop will consist of my handmade items and collectibles. I have many Coke, Pepsi, and other collectible items that will be featured when the shop opens. I am also hoping to get some handmade items on there at the time of opening but if not, the collectibles will be there. I will have a future post on my shop and the items for sell in it.

  1. Wow--psychically I wonder what having all those dolls in one closet would do... hmmm.... Hee hee. Good idea, clean it out and start anew. There's nothing as liberating.

  3. Sorry to hear about that. We're having problems with our electric company. We were a little late paying the bill and they decided to charge us a two month security deposit to secure our account with them or something. Didn't matter we've had an account with them for ten years and already paid a security deposit as well as the previous owners past due balance.

  4. Autumn; those dolls were up in my closet in a box, so their prying eyes could not be seen, thank goodness, lol. It feels great to get rid of all the stuff that is just cluttering the house.

Jessica; thanks you about the house situation. We are actually looking forward to starting over. I will have a post up when my shop is about to open.

Andrea; you would think that utility and mortgage companies would be more understanding, but they are not. Best to you with the electric company.

  9. Hiya sis
I can't believe how much I have stored away in this tiny condo- I can't imagine how much I would have in a house after 18 years!!!!!!!
My mom (and I agreed with her at the time) wanted to sale my condo when we could have made a 25,000 dollar profit - dad nixed the idea- now we are wishing we had put up a fight!!
all the best in the world to you and good luck getting rid of and selling the stuff- and with your new home!!!!!!!
I hope you are doing great!!!!!!

  10. I'm happy that you're moving forward, although you have to leave the house behind.

I'll watch for your shop, as well. Although, I won't be telling my hubby about any collectibles. What a pack rat.

Glad you kept all the dolls hidden in a box in a closet! Hee Hee!

  11. Devin; it is amazing how much crap you can store in your home and forget about until you have to move. We have so much junk!

Brenda; I used to be a pack rat but now I am finally able to let go. It took awhile, but I am doing it.....bye, bye junk!

  12. Oh, Julie, how heartbreaking. Why are the mortgage companies being so bad to people? Yours is a situation I keep hearing about. It's just terrible. So sorry you are having to leave your home in such a fashion. However, on the up side...with all this cleaning out you're doing, and with some of the stuff you've got to clear out, you might end up making serious "bank" off your collectibles! I hope it ends up turning out to be a great thing for you.

  13. It is an extremely sad situation happening everywhere. You will be moving on to better things. I've been doing some 'clearing away 'stuff' also. Not by choice; but by necessity. The items in your store are lovely! You will make "bucks" to help!

Now. If I could only clear out the dreaded white car.... :-)
