I thought that I would post something a little different today. Last night I went to a wedding and this song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole, was played while the bride and groom danced. This is my favorite version of the song. The video I'm posting is IZ singing the song while all of his family and friends celebrate his life and death in the island tradition. He died of weight-related respiratory illness on June 26, 1997, at the age of 38.
this is a lovely version, my fav too! very dreamy.
ReplyDeleteWow. That was so amazing. My eyes are filled with tears. Sometimes, when the conditions are just right, honest spirituality comes out of people and the world seems amazingly beautiful and humans a kind and spirited people. I felt a native spirituality to this and a feeling of connection I haven't felt in a long time with everyone feeling the same thing coming through his voice singing that. Oh, that was so beautiful. I'm putting that as one of my favorite videos on YouTube! Thanks. I feel renewed.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard this, I teared up. The song is so beautifully done by him and uqaili. Sandra, it became my favorite too.
ReplyDeleteSharon; you have an amazing way with words. What you wrote is so true. I love the native traditions and spirituality they hold so close to their hearts. You can feel it when he is singing this song.
Julie, I love when you share these sorts of things. It shows your heart, which is a beautiful specimen of humanity. Thanks for sharing something so wonderful. It makes me sad to know this tender soul is no longer with us. At least he left a piece of himself behind to continue inspiring the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteThanks Courtney for commenting and saying such nice things about me. You are so sweet. Sometimes you have to take a paranormal break and post something that is special to you. This was one of those things.
