It is that time of year where the stores and malls will be crowded with people trying to get their Christmas shopping done. They come armed with lists, ads, credit and debit cards and cash, ready to find a bargain for that special person in their lives. The employees work hard to make sure that the stores run efficient. They stay late after the stores close to stock the shelves getting ready for the next day. In some of these stores an unseen force might be feeling frisky and undo all their work.
Some department stores employees and security have reported seeing apparitions, hearing footsteps and voices while the stores where close and all the shoppers were gone. Most of the reports were in stores that have been around for many years with a long history of many souls coming and going through the doors.
A Foley’s Department Store in Houston under construction has had several reports of apparitions and other unusual things happening while the store was closed for the day. There was one time were a temp worker was in the employee restroom late one night. This restroom used to be the customer’s before construction. While at the sink, she heard the door open and a woman come in. This woman was carrying two big shopping bags full of old fashion looking toys. The lady’s outfit looked out of place for the time, almost like 40’s clothing. She thought the lady was lost and wasn’t supposed to be there. The lady asked her to watch her bags while she went in one of the stalls. Right when the lady shut the stall door, another employee came in. She told her that the lady was not supposed to be there and needed to leave. She walked over to the stall and called out to the woman. She didn’t hear an answer and called out again. She peeked under the stall door and saw no feet and realized that the lady was gone. Both of the girls turned to look at the place where the packages were supposed to be, and they were gone too. Was this old woman a customer from long ago that is still shopping at Foley’s?
There is antique store in Bisbee that has a playful ghost. While I was visiting there the owners loved telling us about their ghost. This ghost does its pranks in the basement of the store. They have dolls that are set up in a particular way and place. In the morning these dolls have moved. This has happened on many occasions. They say that other things have been moved over night while the store was locked up tight.
One of the most famous stories about a ghost haunting a store is the famous Toys R Us Ghost in Sunnydale, CA. The employees named their ghost Johnson. They feel that is was a man, murdered in the orchard in which the Toys R Us was built on. This Toys R Us had many stories of things being pushed off the shelves and walls, and objects moving on their own. None of those people felt like they were in any danger, just scared by things suddenly moving. Apparently Johnson likes to play practical jokes.
The Sunnydale Toys R Us is not the only one that has reported unseen forces moving objects. Mike and both of my kids, worked at the Toys R Us in Phoenix. They have many stories about strange things that have happened to them. Click here to read Mike’s blog about his experience. Also just recently, Mike had ghostly experiences at the Buy Buy Baby store he was working at. Hopefully, he will either blog about it or write about his experience in a comment.
Stores are not the only places that ghosts seem to be hanging around. They like the malls too. Security and employees staying late have reported hearing unseen footsteps, disembodied voices and seeing apparitions in various places throughout the mall. In Chile the security camera caught what looks like a child apparition running across a mall. Some believe it to be true and others think it is a hoax. Watch the video and judge for yourself.
Where ever you choose to shop this holiday season, be safe and watch out for the unseen shoppers.

Those Scary Little Christmas Characters
I just love this time of year. The weather in Phoenix is fantastic and the smell of fireplaces burning is in the air. The holiday season is in full bloom, with lights going up on the houses, people in the stores shopping for family and friends and many fun holiday events are going on all over the place. Getting together with family, some you might not have seen in months or years is the best. Then there are those holiday specials with their cute little characters that you just love. You watch these movies over and over like many of the other holiday traditions you might have. But amongst the cute little characters are those scary, creepy characters that frightened you when you was a little kid. Here are just some of them:
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Grinch
Scrooge
Abominable Snowman - Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
Snow Miser and Heat Miser - The Year Without a Santa Claus

Paranormal State: A Complete Circus?
The show that featured his clients was on last season and titled "Desperate Households". Basically, Mark was contacted by the show looking for new cases. His clients were not sure if they wanted to do the show at first, but warmed up to the idea later. What happened after the Paranormal State team got to their house was nothing but a big disappointment and disaster.

**Note: We don't know if this article is true or not but it does raise the question about the legitimacy of these ghost huntings shows. It's not so much about the evidence being faked but the shear professionalism of the ghost hunting team.

Ghost Hunters vs. Paranormal Activity
So I wanted to post a quick blog about something. Ghost Hunters has been one of my favorite shows for years now. I used to be so excited when it came on and couldn't wait to watch it. In the past two seasons I'm finding myself less and less excited about watching the show. Is it just me, or does something seem off about the TAPS crew lately? For me, it doesn't feel "real" anymore. Everything is becoming more and more "scripted" and a lot of it seems staged these days. Just observe their behavior now compared to the first few seasons...you'll see what I mean. They seem to be doing less debunking and more "catching". They seem to be believing in more these days rather than going in as skeptics. Either they simply just don't care anymore and they are tired of it all...or they were bought off by syfy to make the show more interesting these days.
The film release of "Paranormal Activity" was a huge success. The film has this incredible realism to it, almost a freaky realism. You have to see the movie to truly understand. But all of the "ghostly" things look like authentic like it was actually happening. Here's the thing though, the movie is clearly a fictional story. The movie was made for a measly $11,000. They used one single camera and actors who had virtually no experience. My point is with all this, they came off as more credible than TAPS has recently. That's sad, because the movie...is jut a movie. They were able to fake ghostly evidence. They pulled it off so well that you almost think it IS real.
Am I saying I don't believe in ghosts anymore? No of course not, I still believe. But I've become more skeptical over the past few months. I don't instantly believe anything I see on TV in regards to the paranormal. We can all be duped so easily with fancy camera tricks and good acting. Is Ghost Hunters fake now? I have no idea, but I'm leaning more towards the fact that it just might be. Not ALL of it...but I think a lot of it is now. But I will still watch the show...because it is still entertaining to me.
Watch this clip below from Paranormal Activity and just see how easy it is to fake doors opening and closing.
Again, I'm still a believer, I'm just going into it all now with less naive eyes. This is just my silly observations. Hehe.

Gremlins: Those Pesty Littly Creatures
In the 1984 movie “Gremlins”, a young man named Billy was given a unusual gift from his father for Christmas. This very cute creature was a Mogwai which Billy named Gizmo. Most Mogwai are mean spirited and mischievous but not Gizmo. The father was told by the creepy old man that sold him Gizmo, there were three very important things he must follow when owning a Mogwai. 1. Never expose a Mogwai to bright light, especially sunlight. Bright lights will hurt it and the sunlight will kill it.3. Never get it wet. If they get wet it will reproduces another which pops from its back.
The father didn’t question these three details that the old man stressed to him, but he did let Billy know what the rules were.
So wouldn’t you know it, Billy’s little friend spilled water on Gizmo and it spawned more Mogwais. However, these creatures appeared to be more deveaous and less sweet than Gizmo. They chewed through Billy’s clock/radio cord so he wasn’t aware that they were given food after midnight. This transformed these Mogwaias into little, evil, destructive monsters known as Gremlins. The Gremilins set out to destroy the town after the leader, Stripes, jump into a pool and spawned hundreds more of them. Basically, Billy saves the day by killing off all the Gremlins but it was not an easy task.
This wasn’t the end. In 1990, “Gremlins 2: the New Batch”, Billy and Gizmo are reunited in NY and it starts all over again…..
Are gremlins real? Wikipedi calls a “Gremlin as an English folkloric creature, commonly depicted as mishcievous and mechannically oriented, with a specific interest in aircraft. Although their origin is found in myths among airmen, claiming that the gremlins were responsible for sabotaging aircraft. Since World War II, different fantastical creatures have been referred to a gremlins, bearing varing degrees of resemblance to the originals.”
Deep in the jungles of Peru sightings have been reported of a creature, Chullachaqui, is demonic and looks like a gremlin. There have been many recent sightings in the rainforest near the Madre De Dios River, with many local tribesmen in fear of coming face to face with the Chullachaqui. This creature seems to be different from any other creature that lives in the forest. Usually there is a strange whistling sound right before it is seen in the thick Peruvian jungles. It is very fast, between 3 and 4 feet tall, has sharp fang teeth, pointy ears, and fur, with a three-toed footprint and is a night-dweller.
Josh Gates and the Destination Truth team recently went looking for this gremlin-like creature. Check out my recap. The evidence they collected did not find proof that this creature was real, but for the people of Peru, they believe that gremlins exist.

What Happened to the Gomphotheres?
Here is just a portion of the article:
MEXICO CITY - Scientists have found evidence that cavemen near the Arizona-Mexico border were butchering gomphotheres, an elephant-like beast with a crocodilelike snout that was believed to be nearly extinct in North America by the time humans appeared there. Click here for the entire article.

Claustrophobia
“Claustrophobia is the fear of having no escape, and being closed in. It is typically classified as an anxiety disorder and often results in panic attack. One study indicates that anywhere from 5-7% of the world population is affected by severe claustrophobia, but only a small percentage of these people receive some kind of treatment for the disorder.”
I am one of those that suffer from this phobia. I was five years old when the first real symptoms appeared. My father was in the Air Force and stationed in Germany. I was playing with my younger brother and his hard metal cars. He got mad for some reason and threw one at me, hitting my head above my eye. It was cut open, bleeding badly and needed stitches. My Dad took me to emergency to get stitched up. They had me lay on a table and proceeded to put a cloth over my face. This cloth had a hole in it where my bloody eye would show through and be mended. The moment the cloth covered my face, I went into panic mode. It ended up taking 7 men to hold down this five year old in order to stitch my eye. I don’t personally remember that experience but heard about it many times from my Dad. That may have been my first noticeable incident of Claustrophobia.
From Wikipedia:
“Claustrophobia is typically thought to have two key symptoms: fear of restriction and fear of suffocation. A typical claustrophobic will fear restriction in at least one, if not several, of the following areas: small rooms, locked rooms, tunnels, cellars, elevators, subway trains, caves, and crowded areas. Additionally, the fear of restriction can cause some claustrophobics to fear trivial matters such as sitting in a barber’s chair or waiting in line at a grocery store simply out of a fear of confinement to a single space. However, claustrophobics are not necessarily afraid of these areas themselves, but, rather, they fear what could happen to them should they become confined to said area. Often, when confined to an area, claustrophobics begin to fear suffocation, believing that there may be a lack of air in the area to which they are confined or any combination of the above.”
There have been other times when I felt the panicking coming on when in a small enclosed space, but was able to get out of it before it got bad. One time was at a George Strait concert. I went with my sister and her friend. My sister suffers from Claustrophobia even more than I do. At the end of the concert, we were all aloud to rush the stage and get a closer look at George. Of course we wanted that and headed up there with many others. My sister and I were standing side by side and quickly surrounded by lots of people. They started pushing us and squeezing in closer. Both of us immediately back out of the crowd right before the panic set in. We ended up standing on chairs and still got a close look at George’s handsome face while her friend was squished against the stage and got to smack his hand.
Claustrophobia is something I have lived with for a long time. Even though I feel it take over some aspects of my life, I can control it for the most part.

Another time was in the Empire State Building’s elevator. I typically don’t like elevators and try to ride them out without any panicking setting in. I also won’t go in them if they are crowded. This elevator was different; they pack people in like sardines and you ride over 200 floors to the top. I immediately got in the front and over to the side. I did not want to get shoved into the back. That wouldn’t have been good. I then closed my eyes the entire ride of the elevator, going up and then going back down. I wouldn’t let that elevator ride stop me from seeing that amazing view from the top of the Empire State Building. I typically try not to put myself in situations where I end up in tiny confined spaces. When my family took a trip to the Queen Mary, they toured the submarine sitting beside the Queen Mary and I chose not to. They said that it was a good thing because some of the spaces were very small.
I don’t just have to put myself in situations where panicking may set in, I’m not able to watch someone else do it. There have been many times I’ll be watching a show on TV and if someone is crawling through a teeny tiny tunnel, I feel somewhat panicky. I can feel shortness of breath coming on and then the anxiety will start. It is not always the crawling through but the fear of getting stuck that tends to scare me the most. I have even waked myself up on several occasions dreaming that I was in that situation. The panicking and fear can wake me up from a sound sleep.
Claustrophobia is something I have lived with for a long time. Even though I feel it take over some aspects of my life, I can control it for the most part.

DT: Bhutan Yeti
In Season 2, Josh took the DT team to the Himalayas in search of the Bhutan Yeti. During the investigation, he and his team came across footprints near a river. They saw one perfect and two partial footprints near each other. They took castings and measured the distance between impressions. They figured that the creature who made the impressions was over six feet tall and weighed between 300 and 400 pounds. They also ruled out a hoax and a bear given the shape and size of the prints, and distance between them. It was concluded that the impressions were made by a creature of unknown origin, possibly a Sasquatch, which thrilled Josh.
The Yeti, by DT:
“First reported in 1832 in Nepal, the large, bipedal, shaggy yet manlike creature has been sighted ever since. Much as Sasquatch was seen around North America, his Asian "cousin" has been suspected to be wandering all across the land. The frequency of his sightings increased as more and more people scaled the Himalayan Mountains, notably Mount Everest.
While never quite captured on camera, people have spotted his shape and even what they believe to be footprints. Researchers have studied the reports for years and years, and several have recently begun to suspect that the Yeti might actually be a more familiar animal. Their principal argument on that point is that "yeti" seems to be a mistranslation of the word "meti" from a local dialect that means "bear".
In this season 3 finale, (already?), he takes the new DT team back to the Himalayas in search of the Bhutan Yeti once more. This 10 day expedition will follow sightings of the Yeti. These sightings have occurred in the remote areas surrounding Bhutan, with most occurring in the warmer months.
They flew first to Bangkok, Thailand, and then to Paro, Bhutan. With Mt. Everest in the background, their plane landed in the most remote airport in the world nestled between the mountains. Their translator, Karma, gave each team member a traditional scarf and then they were on their way. They headed to the capital city where televisions did not exist there until 1999. Setting out through this country is by invitation only and Josh felt honored to be able to explore there. They walked around and ended up at the Nature Conservation Division where Dr. Sangay Wangchuk tells them that the area is full of wilderness and the entire country is dedicated to the national parks. The majority of its citizens believes in the yeti and are afraid of it. Before leaving he shows Josh his collection of Yeti footprints he proudly displays on the wall. They next met up with a local author, Kunzang Choden, who collected various stories about the Yeti. She tells Josh that the Yeti lives at the very high altitude. From Thimpau, Bhutan they travel 17 hours across curvy mountain roads to Trashigang. From there they would have a two day hike to they Yeti preserve to Sakteng where they would set up camp and investigate. Along the way they stop at a monastery to speak with a monk, Zacco Tashy, who claims to have heard the creatures call. Before arriving at their finally destination, they are met by a roving ceremony to ward of evil spirits and creatures. They join in on the roadside ritual, and then in the morning the owner of the lodging showed them vertebra bones she claimed was from a Yeti. As they take off further down the road, it was washed out so they pumped up the rafts and headed down stream. Poor Bicha almost fell over board.
After hiking a few more miles they finally arrived at an open field and set up base camp. The cameras were all set up and Josh, Mike and Evan did a sweep of the perimeter, while Jael, Bicha and Gabe explored the area adjacent to camp. Josh picked up something on the flir on the other side of the river and needed to cross an old wood bridge to get there. While crossing Josh slipped and busted a hole in the bridge under his foot. Meanwhile, Jael and Bicha hear growling and branches breaking. Bicha saw something run past and they found hair on a tree. They also found scratch marks on a tree near where the hairs were found. They collected the evidence.
Back to base camp to rest before another day of investigation. The next day they continued to hike east at higher altitudes to the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, the heart of Yeti territory. More eyewitness sightings have been reported there. They meet up with a farmer, Leki, who tells them that a Yeti ransacked his village and took some of the kids away. He told them to continue to travel east near a river where the Yeti is usually seen. They came to an area where they needed their climbing gear to get down to where they needed to be. Safely on the ground they continued until they found the area that the farmer told them to go. After setting up base camp, Josh, Jael, Mike and Evan headed downstream where they discover a big cave. Josh uses the thermal camera and they noticed branches set up like a nest and they even found hair samples. After bagging the samples, Josh heads inside the cave with Evan while Jael and Mike hang outside and investigate. Jael squeezes inside a small chamber and finds nothing while Josh explores the cave. Finding nothing they head out and continue searching.
Meanwhile Gabe and Bicha are doing another investigation and see eyes off in the distance and something moving up the cliff. They come across a cave where Gabe checks it out and sees scratches on the rocks while in there. They head down river but get stopped by a cliff.
Back with Josh and team he sees an animal on the flir, big and it was moving. He sees it again and they give chase to whatever it was. They find a leg of a deer that looked like it was just bitten off. They decide to head back to the river and hear rocks moving. There is a steep drop to get to the river. They capture the heat signature again. They find a bridge with a bucket to get across and Josh talks Jael into getting in with him. She did not want to go and tells him that he is crazy. They stopped in the middle where Josh pulls them to the other side. After jumping out, they run to the area where the thermal hit was caught. No way to get around and finding a dead end, they headed back to base camp. They let the cameras roll all night while sleeping. They headed out the next day for the four day journey back to western Bhutan.
Back in Los Angeles, Josh took the vertebra photo evidence to Dr. Jim Dines to find out the origin of the bones. He told Josh that they were probably a lower vertebra from a mammal and it matched the vertebra of a black bear. Next Josh heads to Houston Texas to see the results from the hair samples. He arrives at the diagnostic lab in Timpson. He sat down with Dr. Melba Ketchum, an experienced forensic analysis. She told Josh that she usually wasn't too excited about getting the samples because she has seen many like it. However, after running the samples through the database she determined that the hairs tested high on the human panels, is from a primate and is from an unknown species because it didn't match any known primate samples. Josh scores again!
